The hardest thing to fathom about this team is how we unloaded all the horrible contracts of Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett to the Dodgers, went back to the basics, signed short term guys in 2013, no big contracts, used home grown guys and brought in the “John Wayne” of managers and won a World Series in 2013. Then this year we return to the old mentality of trying to buy a team. John Farrell has taken this team from “True Grit” to True Shit.. The Red Sox went out and spent big this offseason, in places they didn’t really have to. They gave Hanley Ramirez a 4 year $88m deal and asked him to play a position he has never played (and it most certainly looks like he has never played LF). The front office also gave hefty 3B Pablo Sandoval a 5 year $95m contract for a guy they that was a “nice to have” and not a “have to have”. Hanley has lived up to expectations at the plate, but thats it, he has been an absolute shit show in left field. As bad as Hanley has been in LF at a new position, Sandoval has been even worse at his normal position.
The Red Sox currently stand 10 games under .500 and are now 27-37. To say this season they haven’t lived up to expectations is an understatement. This is not a playoff team as it stands, they are unwatchable, they aren’t going to turn it around this season.
Amongst the guys they picked up for their bats not living up to their expectations, they did absolutely nothing in helping the rotation and bullpen. John Farrell, aside from the 2013 World Series season has been mediocre at best. In Farrell’s 5 seasons as a manager, he has only 1 season over .500 and with the Red Sox, he currently stands at 195-193 as Red Sox manager. Not going to cut it in the AL East. Farrell had a huge opportunity the other night with Wade Miley showing him up after taking him out of the game. I’m not saying Farrell should have pinned Miley against the wall like old school managers would, but in the spotlight he had a great opportunity to make a point and he failed miserably. After the game having nothing but praise for Miley. A total joke…
If I have to put the blame pie out there, I would call it 50% to the owners for not taking care of the teams needs this offseason and loading up on pitching like they should have, 30% of it goes to Farrell who has shown no fire as a manager and hasn’t lead this team like a manager should, and 20% of it goes to the players who seem to just be absolutely dogging it right now, no effort, no trying. Pedroia and Ortiz, who I consider to both be team leaders/captains, haven’t shown one sign of that this season. The whole heated argument in the dugout with Miley and Farrell, no one steps in or anything!
This is a team thats sinking fast and the we hit the ice berg before the dam All Star game!
6 losses in a row.. Its going to be a long rest of the season!
