Yesterday was boring, unwatchable, insane, can’t miss television. The first game of the day was of course the Kansas City Chiefs vs Houston Texans. Easily the ugliest playoff game I have seen in a long time. For everyone that told me I was being an asshole for saying the Patriots playing Houston would be a second bye week. You were all wrong and I was very right. I’m not going to rub it in anyone’s face but that’s why I sit in my underwear and write blogs and you have real lives. In your well washed face…
Houston had no business being in the playoffs they are just not that caliber of a team, is the nice way to put it. Yesterday, twitter was filled with the saltiest of Jets fans complaining that they deserved a playoff spot. If you’re a Jets fan and you’re still heartbroken over Rex ripping your hearts out. Bleed out and die already the grown ups are playing.
So were on to Kansas City, not nearly as catchy as we’re on to Cincinnati but I’ll take it. There is no way to prepare yourself for playoff football as a fan. You can look at statistics and crunch all the numbers and sit in you’re basement with a tin hat on trying to tap into some sort of higher being that will grant you a playoff win (believe me I’ve tried). At the end of the day there is nothing you can do. This time last year I was having full on nervous breakdowns during the Patriots Baltimore Ravens divisional game and somehow everything worked out. I am much less scared of Kansas City then I was of Baltimore last year.
After all, Houston gave up 4 turnovers in the first half and managed to keep the game at 13-0 going into the locker room. I think Kansas City will give the Patriots every chance to win this game. It is time to see if the Pats are ready for the challenge. They have been overcoming adversity all year, now that they have reloaded they should have no problem advancing on their home turf.
Last nights game between Pittsburgh and Cincinnati was the closest thing to WWE the NFL has ever been. Adam “Pacman” Jones and Vontaze Burfict taking players heads off every other play. Big Ben separating his shoulder getting carted off with concessions reigning down on him. The AJ McCarron comeback, the Jeremy Hill fumble, the return of Big Ben, the decapitation of Antonio Brown, the field goal to win the game. This was must watch television and it was a prime example of old school football meeting new school rules. Turns out the two don’t really mix.
For all the talking heads who are “outraged” at the way Burfict and Jones played yesterday. This is what you get with Roger Goodell football. If you want to change the game and make it safer for the players and reduce head injuries. Then maybe don’t let these guys play football. Stop trying to act like these guys aren’t complete thugs and get them out of the league or let football be what football is: Violent. Is everyone really surprised that a guy who shot up a night club would push a referee? Isn’t that exactly what you would expect from him? Marvin Lewis needs to be fired, these players need to be punished, and AJ McCarron deserves an apology letter because that kid played his tail off.
Here are some extroadinary clips from last nights heavyweight fight…
