This is the question. Not whether or not the Red Sox need Chris Sale but how much should they be willing to hand over to the White Sox. As far as the players who are considered untouchables in my mind that includes Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, Hanley Ramirez, Dustin Pedroia and the obvious large father himself. However, there have been some Red Sox players that have significantly grown in value since the beginning of the 2016 season. For instance, Chris Young has really upped his trade value in recent months as well as Christian Vazquez who has been amazing behind the plate. Brock Holt has been out but still has value after his great 2015 season. Travis Shaw is a likely candidate to be pulled into this trade, as great as Shaw has been at third this is a necessary evil.
The real question is whether or not the Red Sox feel desperate enough to make this trade. The team has had some early success but as the bats have started to dwindle the need for another ace to lift the team up in these situations has become evident. The White Sox offense is pitiful as we have seen this series and they are yearning for some hitters. Rick Porcello, Joe Kelly, E-Rod and god forbid Clay Buchholz are not going to be able to compliment our two aces if the Red Sox want a postseason run. 3 big time starters are a staple to any great postseason run and the Sox are missing the 3rd piece to the puzzle.
Plus Sale can literally throw strikeout pitches that end up hitting the batters.
