Six Red Sox players are headed to San Diego for the midsummer classic. In a game that might as well be considered Cubs Vs. Red Sox, four Red Sox’s get the starting nod. David Ortiz, Xander Bogaerts, Mookie Betts and Jackie Bradley Jr. were voted in by fans to start for the AL. It is likely that some sort of ceremony will be done to honor David Ortiz in his last all-star game. Starting pitcher Steven Wright and closer Craig Kimbrel join them. Other starters for the AL include Angels outfielder Mike Trout, Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, Royals catcher first baseman Eric Hosmer and Royals catcher Salvador Perez.
The NL Starts five Chicago Cubs. First baseman Anthony Rizzo, second baseman Ben Zobrist, third baseman Kris Bryant, shortstop Addison Russell and outfielder Dexter Fowler all earned starting nods. Pitchers Jake Arrieta and Jon Lester join the rest of the Cubs in San Diego. Rounding out the NL starters are Giants catcher Buster Posey, Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper and Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes. A designated hitter for the NL has yet to be named.
The Red Sox could tie the Cubs at seven participants, as Dustin Pedroia is a part of the final vote. Voting for Pedroia can be done here. He leads all players in the final vote with a .308 average.
The large participation from the Red Sox is a result of two things. Great young talent, and a awesome fan base. The young talent provided, and us as Red Sox fans cared enough to go online and vote. So for that, a pat on the back Sox fans. Good Work! Boston once again showed why it is the best sports city in the nation.
