I get that bashing John Farrell’s decision making isn’t exactly a “hot take” right now. However, this was maybe the worst managing decision he has made all year. It’s funny too because I thought he was about to start figuring it out after finally seeing that having Mookie batting lead off while hitting over 20 home runs was dumb. Instead I forgot that Farrell still doesn’t get how to run the pitching staff.
E-rod was at just over 90 pitches through 7 innings. The sox have pitchers DESIGNED to finish this game. We don’t need Kimbrel warming up in the bullpen in case the Red Sox tie the game in the bottom of the 9th. We need him closing the game in the top. This might all sound very obvious and that’s because it is. Just let the players do their job.
If any jerkoff in the stands can figure out what managing decisions to make then the Red Sox are usually slated to win the game. If Hanley doesn’t get taken out at first for inexplicably leaning back and Benintendi doesn’t look directly into the one ray of sunlight still left at 930pm then maybe I would be singing a different tune. The bottom line is I would not be praising Farrell I would be praising E-Rod and the defense. The Red Sox can;t lose these games. The only guy who looks war ready is Sandy Leon, that guy is showing up with a fever and the only cure is extra base hits.
The Arizona D-backs are coming to town. Sweep or bust!
