Tom Brady is making his first start in San Francisco against the team he grew up idolizing. Unbelievably San Fran is the only city in which Tom has never played. The one chance he had to play in San Francisco (2008), he missed due to his season ending injury.
Needless to say, Tom holds a grudge against every team that passed on him 16 years ago and he certainly plays with a chip on his shoulder because of it, but San Francisco tops the list.
Tom worked out for the 49ers prior to the draft. Tom was ready to join his home town team, but the 49ers ended up drafting Giovanni Carmazzi, a quarterback who was hyped but never lived up to expectations. Carmazzi never played a single down in the NFL and was out of the league after just 2 seasons.
Tom acknowledged earlier this week that this game is the most tickets he has ever fulfilled for friends and family, so there will be a big crowd there for Tom.
There is no telling how Tom’s career would have panned out had he been drafted by his home town team, every team passed over him 5 times which is something they all have to live with and Brady always keeps this in the back of his mind which is what makes him tick.
Since 2001, San Francisco is 108- 130 (.454) with 5 playoff appearances and 1 Super Bowl appearance
New England is 189-60 (.759) with 13 playoff appearances, 10 AFC championship games, 6 Super Bowl appearances and 4 Super Bowl championships.
Needless to say, things worked out well for Tom in New England.
