The Boston Red Sox just took care of one of their biggest needs this offseason, a shutdown bullpen, by acquiring Tyler Thornburg from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for 3B Travis Shaw and two minor leaguers, Josh Pennigton and Mauricio Dubon.

This is a great move for the Red Sox, offensively, the Sox can take care of their needs internally but they definitely needed some help in the bullpen. Rex Sox ownership acknowledged this was one of their biggest goals this offseason was to acquire bullpen help. Last year, Thornburg struck out 90 batters in 68 innings including an ERA of 2.15. The 27 year old has been with the Brewers for the last 5 seasons.
Thornburg features a fastball that tops 95-96 MPH as well as a curve ball and changeup.
Moving Travis Shaw all but locks up Pablo Sandoval playing the hot corner next season, and if you haven’t seen recent pics of him, he is looking fantastic.
