Long gone are the days in which Celtics vs. Heat games were dominated by LeBron James. These days, they’re dominated by a little guy named Isaiah Thomas. Last night was the perfect example of that.
On the tail-end of a back-to-back, IT showed no signs of being tired at all. He torched the Heat for 52 points in just 37 minutes, going 9-13 from three as well as 13-13 from the free throw line, raising the question: “Does Isaiah Thomas even miss free throws?” He hit big shot after big shot, include this dagger shown here:
In a game that was neck-and-neck from wire-to-wire, the Celtics would need every single one of his 52 points.
Isaiah wasn’t the only one to play well though. Al Horford had 21 points to help the C’s squeak out this 117-114 victory over Miami even without Avery Bradley. Jae Crowder played his typical top-notch defense and Marcus Smart stepped up to play extra minutes at a high defensive level. Terry Rozier even chipped in to play 21 minutes of quality ball, collecting 5 rebounds and 5 assists.
The lone bad news to come out of this game is that Celtics were without Avery Bradley tonight, unfortunately. Luckily, his absence was an illness and unrelated to when he banged up his wrist the night before in Cleveland. He’s currently listed as day-to-day and his return is expected soon.
So what’s next for the third place Boston Celtics? Some much needed R & R. The Celtics don’t play again until January 3rd at home against Utah. A few days off is definitely a good thing for this team as they had just played three games in four nights. When we tip off on Tuesday night, let’s hope they’re just as hot as they have been of late, having won seven of their last nine.
