The NBA trade deadline came and went with no action at all from Danny Ainge and company.
The Celtics had some needs that they could have filled with a deadline deal but instead they stayed idle.
Lets face it, this Celtics team is overachieving, Ainge even acknowledged that himself on a radio interview on 98.5 The Sports Hub.
This team is 28th in the league in rebounding, so what do they do at the deadline? Not a damn thing. No rebounders, no big men, no nothing, no fun. How do you not at least acknowledge this need?
Then there’s the Jimmy Butler or Paul George deals that didn’t happen. All because Ainge is all about stockpiling draft picks, Ainge loves piles and piles of assets that he refuses to deal.
Here’s the thing about the Brooklyn pick, it’s not even guaranteed to be the #1 pick. In fact, that pick only has a 25% chance of being a number one, and the way the ping pong balls have fallen for the Celtics, they’ll most likely get hosed on that.
Then there’s the probability of that #1 pick even being a game changer. I would say over the last 15 years, the #1 pick has gone on to be a complete game changer 3 out of 15 possible #1’s. That’s a 20% chance.
So Ainge refuses to trade away that pick for a 25% chance to have a 20% chance at finding a stud. Why not trade for the guy that you know is a stud. It really makes no sense.
This Celtics team, as it stands right now, will never get past Cleveland in the East let alone beat a team like Golden State in the Finals. They needed to add someone like Jimmy Butler and a rebounder like Andrew Bogut to stand any chance.
When Paul Pierce and KG were traded away 5 years ago, I said it’ll be 10 years before the Celtics play a relevant game in the NBA, Ainge could have proved me wrong, but it looks like this team is at minimum 5 more years away.
It’s just frustrating how this team doesn’t even acknowledge basic needs when it comes to winning in the present.
I’m beyond disappointed. For that and the fact that I had a nice graphic made with Butler in a Celtics uniform. Thanks for wasting my time Danny.
