The wait is over, the New England Patriots have struck a deal with free agent linebacker, Dont’a Hightower. The deal comes after Hightower visited with the Titans, Jets and Steelers. Among other teams that were in the mix were the Texans and Dolphins.

According to Jeff Howe from The Boston Herald, the deal is worth 4 years $43.5M including $19M guaranteed.
Dont’a had to have realized during his tour how great things were in New England. What possibly could the Jets say to Hightower to lure him in? Their QB couldn’t hit the ocean if he fell out of a boat and they’ve released all their halfway decent players. There is literally no incentive to being a Jet other than having January and February off.
The Steelers were another team, here’s a team with a QB that was talking about retiring after losing in the AFCCG to the New England Patriots. If your QB isn’t fully committed, that’s not good. The Steelers offer came with an ultimatum that Hightower had to sign before he left town, which Dont’a probably laughed off.
As for this Patriots team, they are completely stacked heading into the 2017 season. They’ve already added players to fill holes they had with players they lost in free agency. It sounds like the Butler situation is going to be sticky and could turn ugly, but the Patriots have a backup plan in Stephon Gilmore who they signed to a deal on day one of free agency.
I’m excited to see this team take the field in 2017. It already has that special feeling to it already.
