This past weekend the Revolution got their first three points of the year with a 5-2 victory over Minnesota United FC in their first match in Foxboro on the season. This was a much needed victory, as questions about personnel may have begun to pop up if the Revs suffered a loss. Luckily, they performed rather well.

So what did the Revs do right? Well, their midfield performed significantly better than it had in their previous two matches. Coach Jay Heaps bumped Juan Agudelo up next to Kei Kamara, which allowed Lee Nguyen to get more touches in the midfield. This paid off instantly, allowing Nguyen to score once and for Agudelo to knock in a brace.
A change that could possibly be made this week to improve upon their attack would be to move Diego Fagundez to work on the right side of the midfield as opposed to the left, as it appeared he wasn’t necessarily confident in his left boot. It will also be interesting to see if the Revs bring in some youth with Brian Wright.
Just four matches into the season and the Revolution may be facing their biggest challenge of 2017, a nationally televised match at Providence Park in Portland against the Timbers. The Portland Timber sit on top of the table with 9 points on the young season, but are coming off of a rough 3-2 loss to the Columbus Crew.
It was a back-and-forth contest in Columbus.

So, luckily for Revolution fans, the Timbers are coming off of a low-note. Unfortunately for Revolution fans, the Timbers will be getting American International, Darlington Nagbe, back for this match. Nagbe’s work was sorely missed by the Timbers in their loss last week. Guys like Nagbe, Fanendo Adi, and Diego Valeri will sure make the upcoming match incredibly difficult for the New England side. The added pressure of a nationally televised match will be no help.
