Super Bowl 51 was, without a doubt, one of the greatest comebacks in the history of sports.
One person that probably never wants to speak of the tough loss, is Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan. Every time the clock strikes 3:28, he probably curls up into the fetal position while sucking his thumb while whimpering.
Matty Ice-cold opened up about Super Bowl 51.
The Falcons QB spoke to Atlanta-Journal Constitution last Tuesday before appearing at a celebrity golf tournament, and even had a few digs to throw. (Especially at former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.)
One of the shadiest digs being thrown? That Ryan couldn’t audible for most of the game.
“Ryan wouldn’t directly point any fingers at former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan for his play-calling.
He contended that once the play is called it’s on the players to execute it. He said he couldn’t audible, in part, because of the personnel grouping.”
To me, it sort of sounds like he is directly calling Shanahan out.
I guess Ryan needed to confirm how badly Shanahan messed up, because he revealed that he watched the tapes for three straight days following the loss.
How the hell does a team heading into the Super Bowl not have audible plays set up for certain personnel packages? That’s just bananas.
Be it someone else’s fault or not, you would never, ever hear Brady do this. It’s just not his style. Even when something was glaringly someone else’s fault, Tom always speaks in a ‘we’ manner. Win or lose, Tom is always about ‘we’, because you win as a team and lose as a team.
There’s no telling why Shanahan had the Falcons in the shotgun with a 25 point lead late in the 3rd, but I’m glad he did.
Don’t let Matt’s comments distract you from the fact that the Falcons blew a 25 point lead…
