Tomorrow night at 9 p.m. the NBA finals will tip off at Oracle Arena in Oakland. Tell me if you’ve heard that before. Oh, you heard it last year? Oh, the year before as well? Well, then this is nothing new. Or is it?
This is absolutely something new. The Warriors are the first team since the 1960s Celtics to have 4 of the 16 best players in the NBA. The Cavaliers have played better offense in this posteason than ANY team ever. Kevin Durant could get his 1st ring. LeBron could get his 4th ring. This NBA Finals is going to be bonkers.
This Finals could bring LeBron into a deadlock with Michael Jordan for GOAT. However, a loss wouldn’t harm his legacy considering this Warriors team is one of the greatest of all time.
But what is most impressive about these finals to me, isn’t that its the third straight time that these two teams are meeting at the end of the season. It’s the fact that there are 7 All-Stars playing in this series. That’s not even including the former All-Stars of David West, Deron Williams, or Andre Iguodala. These two teams combine for 7 current All-Stars: Steph Curry, LeBron, Durant, Irving, Love, Green, and Thompson. That is just unheard of. With that level of talent playing in one series, we could very well be seeing basketball be played at the highest level EVER over the course of the next couple of weeks.
Not only will there be levels of talent that have never been paralleled, but we will be seeing clashing styles of play. While the Warriors may have explosive offense, they pride themselves on defense. The Cavaliers, on the other hand, only really care about outscoring the other team. Their defense leaves very little to be desired.
On the offensive side of the ball the Cavaliers feature and isolation heavy brand of ball, leading to LeBron and Kryie Irving often taking over games. The Warriors are the antithesis of that. When you watch the Warriors play offense, you will notice that they rarely dribble and just pass the ball around every. The Golden State offense is in constant motion and averaged an outstanding 31 assists per game this year.
I don’t care if you dislike both teams or are bored of seeing both teams play, just appreciate the talent.
For what it’s worth, I’m picking the Warriors in a 5-game series. Every game will be close but the Warriors will steal Game 4 in Cleveland then close it out on the West Coast.
