The biggest reason I believe the Celtics will be in the NBA Finals within the next three years is The Golden State Warriors. After last night’s championship win for the Warriors, we can all realistically say that we witnessed one of the best teams in NBA history. The even scarier thing for the rest of the NBA is that team is young and doesn’t look to be on the verge of splitting up. Players have already made it known they will take pay cuts to stay together.
That is good news (in a twisted way) for the Celtics and very bad news for LeBron James who was just handed his FIFTH Finals loss.
Stop babbling and get to the point right? LeBron being handed his fifth loss stings his legacy a bit, but you know what would be worse? His sixth! It’s been “reported” that we will see LeBron James play 1 more season in Cleveland than leave for…..the west!
This makes complete sense (to fit the narrative of my debate) considering as long as the beast known as The Golden State Warriors exist then Lebron stands no chance on the Cavs. He could prosper in the West taking over a team like the Laker’s which would make for the perfect foundation to build his next “super team” and very quickly. I can’t put my finger on it, call it a gut feeling or too much coffee, but LeBron on the Laker’s seems to me like the best place to bring in big free agents…like, say Russell Westbrook who only has 1-year left on his contract. If he was able to compete in the west than it would make for an easier finals game against the east and at 33 years old (in December) he best get going.
So this leaves a young Celtics team with undoubtedly a top-5 coach to take over the east. With the number 1 pick in this year’s draft, I only see two options and both are wins. Trade the pick and some baggage for Paul George or draft Markelle Fultz who can be an Isaiah Thomas 2.0 who has height at 6’4″ to pick up some defense on that tab. Gordon Hayward would be the cherry on the cupcake (they’re not a full cake yet) to set themselves up for ‘moderate’ success….once again….within the next three years.
The only thing stopping the Celtics from reaching the Finals is Lebron James. I will give a sliver of credit to the Bulls and Toronto, especially since the Bulls could of won the series against Boston if Rondo wasn’t injured, but that roster is about as stable as the New York Jets. That leaves Toronto being the only team that would stand between the Celtics and the Finals. Boston right now has the best upside in the East with the coach, dirty Danny Ainge moving those chess pieces, and the high draft picks to keep talented youth on the team.
Lebron James will not play in Cleveland for more than 1 more season. He will not. The better options for him are in the West and he will leave that playoffs door wide open for Bradley’s Celtics to make a sexy sweep to the Finals. Boston will be in the Finals within the next 3 years, did I say they would win? No says I, but get your slogans ready!
