Ex-Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams can’t deny the greatness of the New England Patriots, but he took a shot at QB Tom Brady while admitting it.
Williams had said there were four NFL teams he’d never play for. Many speculated the Patriots would be on that list, but it was the Cleveland Browns, the Carolina Panthers, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Dallas Cowboys. When asked how the Patriots didn’t make it, with the rivalry between the Pats and the Steelers – along with some of the outspoken comments Williams himself has made – he explained.
“It’s kind of one of those things, man. It wasn’t the Patriots because there wasn’t a lot of hatred there,” Williams said to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on the Know Them From Adam podcast. “I was speaking on the side of being right. You look at all of the championship rings that they have. You can’t deny the fact that they win.”
Even so, that’s when he felt like he needed to get in one last dig.
“Whether it’s them being in a weak division,” he said. “Whether it’s Tom Brady being a system quarterback. Whatever, the fact is that they continue to win and they win on a consistent basis. I’m in the business of winning.”
Weak division? Let’s have ourselves a gander at that. First off, Brady owns every division (have a looksy below), but when you break it down, the AFC East proves to be one of the toughest division for Tom: As for being a “system quarterback”, this is the lamest comeback when anyone talks about Tom Brady. Tom Brady IS the system. Tom literally makes everyone around him better. His football IQ is at levels that D’Angelo Williams could only dream of being at. Tom makes everyone he plays with rich, they either take pay cuts to play with him or move on and get paid because Tom made them a somebody. If Tom is a system quarterback, then why didn’t that system win the Super Bowl in 2008 when he missed the entire year? If you’re going to come at me with a debate, bring something more than the whole system argument. Was Jordan a product of Phil Jackson? No, he wasn’t. It’s a dumb argument and only makes you look less intelligent than you already did. Come on man…
