Free agent Kelly Olynyk has agreed to a four-year, $50M-plus deal with the Miami Heat, agent Greg Lawrence tells ESPN.

This may sound a little crazy but in today’s NBA the Heat actually got a pretty good deal for Kelly Olynyk. Sure he looks like a baby giraffe being birthed when he drives to the lane and yes he can be as timid as a baby deer when deciding whether or not to pop a three, but occasionally K.O can be a productive player on the offensive end. Evidenced by his Game 7 explosion against the Wizard in which he went off for 26 points.
You might even say the Heat got a steal when you look at what some other big man were paid last off season when the salary cap boom made NBA GM’s forget that they were paying these bums with actual U.S currency and not monopoly money.
- Ian Mahimni 4 yrs/$64 mil (16-17 stats: 5.6 ppg, 4.8 rpg)
- Timofey Mozgov: 4 yrs/$64 mil (16-17 stats: 7.4 ppg, 4.9 rpg)
- Miles Plumlee: 4 yrs/$50 mil (16-17 stats: 2.4 ppg 3.2 rpg)
Much like Evan Turner’s free agency last off-season, it was basically a forgone conclusion that everyone’s favorite greasy haired Canadian would not be returning for another season. Budget concerns with off season targets like Gordon Hayward (hooray) and Paul George (boo) made it financially unfeasible for the green to bring Olynyk back.
While Olynyk never lived up to the ill conceived Dirk Nowitzki comparisons (sorry Tommy) his clown feet basically stomped on the Wizards throats in game 7 of the Eastern Conference semi finals, bringing the C’s to their first Eastern Conference Finals since 2011-12.
Plus if there was one face that was specifically crafted by the hand of God to reside in South Beach, it’s this one-
Think of all the endorsement money he’s going to rake in out in Miami. Forget missing out on Gordon Hayward Miami, it’s only a matter of hours until they have banners hung up all over the city with that beautiful mug on it.
