The story that just keeps on giving now has an end in sight. After the Celtics and Cavs have attempted renegotiations on the Isaiah Thomas/Kyrie Irving trade to no avail, the two teams now have a deadline.
The Celtics and Cavaliers will have until Wednesday evening to agree to a final deal otherwise the deal can be voided according to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com.
After the Cavs reached a deal nearly a week ago that would have sent Kyrie Irving to the Celtics for Thomas, Crowder, Zizic, and the 2018 Brooklyn pick, they have gotten cold feet after Isaiah’s physical in Cleveland late last week.
Even though the Cavs knew Thomas was coming off a hip injury and are really getting the better end of this deal, they’re reportedly looking for additional compensation in this trade. The latest from the Cavs was the additional throw in of Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum. No chance in that happening. The Celtics have reportedly countered with an andditional 2nd round draft pick, which is really more than enough. As of now, no deal has been finalized. This is almost as good of a duel as Mayweather v. McGregor.
At this point I’m just looking forward to this getting over with. It’s gone on too long. Personally, I’m fine if they just want to void this deal, give us back Thomas and the Brooklyn pick, and call it a day. The Cavs have more of an awkward situation with Irving coming back than the Celtics do with Thomas coming back. Just end it. Opening tipoff is 50 days away.
