I would like to personally invite all of our readers to join together and rise to their feet to offer a resounding round of applause for the social advocate that is John Tomase. Thank God there is someone so brave, no scratch that, someone so heroic, no no that doesn’t do his actions justice either, let me try one more time.
Thank God there is someone so heroically brave and fearless that they are willing to sacrifice their own televised entertainment to defend grown men making the conscious and well informed decision to play a game (a dangerous game albeit) to make millions of dollars.
Yes football is dangerous, and yes there are many long term health risks associated with the game, the most devastating being CTE caused by head injuries, but guess what? Every single player in the NFL is aware of that possibility. They are aware that there is a massive risk-reward scenario involved in their career choice, but know what the key word is? Choice. They are making a choice. No one has the wool pulled over their eyes, concussions are real, CTE is real, if you don’t realize that you may as well be part of the Kyrie Irving Flat Earth Club. Which in that case, neither I nor John Tomase can help you.
Yet John Tomase, is such an intellectual with so much “knowledge” that he now simply cannot tollerate the thought of watching a football game. The very idea of this brutal game existing for the enjoyment of the masses shakes him to his self righteous core. Every NFL fan may as well be a blood thirsty spectator watching Gladiators hack each other apart in the Roman Colosseum- while John Tomase, an intellectual, shields his eyes and wallows in the injustice.
My advice to John Tomase would be that if you’re going to leave around 6 hours wide open on your Sunday schedule, while you’re not watching football, maybe put the time to good use. Like pick up a hobby like, I don’t know, exercising, walking, moving, really anything to get that heart rate up. You obviously have such a huge and caring heart, have to keep it healthy.
