As details about Roger Goodell’s contract begin to leak, Jerry Jones is starting to look less like a bitter old bag of bones, hell bent on seeking revenge for Ezekiel Elliot’s suspension. In fact, he seems more like the most reasonable person in the room.
In a year where the NFL ratings are plummeting amid blowback from the National Anthem protests, CTE lawsuits and more domestic abuse scandals, Roger Goodell still had the nerve to lay out some of the most outrageous demands for his new contract.

According to ESPN sources, Goodell demanded upwards of $50 million per year back on August 1st… and as of today, he has no interest in budging. What could be more asinine than paying a man who is doing a horrible job at the easiest job in the world besides hosting the Jimmy Kimmel show? – Committing to flying him around on a private jet, wherever he chooses for THE REST OF HIS LIFE. Book it. NFL funded lifetime private jet flights are among Roger’s contract demands.
I know what you’re thinking at this point: Give that man some free health insurance. Because how is someone who is making $50 million a year going to afford health insurance? In fact… how is his family going to afford health insurance? Throw them on the list too. Sound silly? That’s because it is… and it’s one of his demands. Roger wants free health insurance for him and his family. This one makes sense, since Roger Goodell is on the football field running around risking his health, absorbing helmet to helmet hits. Right? Oh that’s the players, forgive me. Keep in mind that Roger already has been raking in $30 million per year, banking over $200 million since becoming the incompetent commissioner of the NFL.
According to owners around the NFL, Goodell is shooting for the stars, in hopes of settling on merely being wildly overpaid, instead of unthinkably overpaid. In a surprising show of support, Robert Kraft has reportedly come out in defense of Roger Goodell, suggesting that owners like Jerry Jones dial it back and give the man what he wants. Really, Kraft? After Goodell threw the book at the Patriots over Spygate, then doubled down during the witch hunt also known as DeflateGate, shaming the greatest QB of all time, Tom Brady, fueling mouth breathing haters for an eternity of petty excuse-making… this is how Kraft responds? With an opportunity to boot Goodell in his deflated balls, Robert went soft again.
Lets be honest here – Goodell should be settling on a pay cut, not a pay raise after the last atrocious couple years filled with botched investigations, lost sponsorships and plummeting ratings. He should be begging for his job, not making more money than any owner in the NFL. In fact, Goodell shouldn’t make a dime more than the highest paid player in the NFL. Let’s not forget who keeps the NFL running – it’s not the commissioner – it’s the owners, who cut the checks to the players, those players who are putting their bodies on the line. I never thought I’d see the day where I agree with Jerry Jones, I thought his day had come and gone long ago and he was basically a walking corpse making terrible decisions for his organization, but here comes Jerry straight out of an episode of the Walking Dead, throwing haymakers at the commish, threatening to sue if the owners don’t get to vote on his extension. I stand with Jerry here, and you should too.
