Earlier this week, the New York Giant announced that they were benching quarterback Eli Manning for… Geno Smith. A rough move for the 2-time Super Bowl champion QB. The Giants are 2-9 on the season and even though their QB hasn’t been up to par, you could argue that their coaching has been a total disaster. Tack on the injuries, and it’s just a bad situation all around.
Tom Brady, who has been beaten by Eli twice in Super Bowls, weighed in on the benching of Manning:
“I have nothing but the most respect for him and everything he’s achieved and accomplished in his career,” Brady said, per Pro Football Talk. “Obviously, being on the other side of two of those Super Bowl losses to an Eli Manning-led team, I just have so much respect for his dependability, for his consistency, for his toughness. You know, that’s really everything you want in an NFL player and I think Eli has always provided that for the team. So I think it’s a pretty unfortunate situation.”
A world class response from Tom, honestly I expected nothing less from him. The situation is ugly in New York, which makes me hope that things don’t end like this for Tom when that sad day eventually comes. Personally, I think Tom will step aside before any harsh decision like this will have to be made, as for New York, their season is over, why not let Eli play and let the fans send him off? It’s not like their QB of the future is coming in now to get reps, it’s freaking Gino Smith. Sad what they are doing to Eli. And I hate the guy….
