NESN:The wife of Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward caused a stir Wednesday by posting a seemingly harmless Instagram video that revealed her husband wasn’t wearing his walking boot. Does that mean Hayward is fully recovered from his gruesome ankle injury?! No, of course not. But Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge gave a positive update on the All-Star forward Thursday morning when asked about that Instagram video.

“He’s progressing along,” Ainge said of Hayward in a radio interview on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Toucher & Rich.” “He can take the boot off for short periods of time, but yeah, he’s doing really well. “His therapy is going great. He’s right on schedule. He’s doing sometimes two workouts a day trying to get stronger. And the next phases are just getting out of the boot completely, but I still think that’s a couple weeks away from being permanently out of the boot.”
WHOA. A fast progressing rehab for Hayward’s ankle is a HUGE story for the outlook of the Boston Celtics season. The Celtics currently sit at atop the Eastern Conference with a 22-4 record (best record in the NBA). But, the Cavaliers are currently STORMING back to the top with a current record of 18-7, and riding a 13 game winning streak. The Cavaliers are starting to look just as good as years past, and they have not returned Isaiah Thomas back yet.
Returning Isaiah back for the Cavaliers would finally put at full strength. While, the Celtics still have the loss of Gordon Hayward on their head. Despite the early season success, LeBron is still a tough out in the playoffs every season, especially with Isaiah. If the Celtics returned Hayward to this 22-4 team, that would make them the obvious favorite over the Cavaliers, and would probably push the Celtics over the hump. Even without Hayward, the Celtics are still competing for a title, and own the best record in the league – stay tuned folks.
