Another Hayward Update: Gordon Hayward sent out a tweet updating fans on his recovery letting them know he is out of his boot and progressing every day. Hayward said, “Now I’m off the crutches completely, and I’m totally out of the boot, too. Instead, I’m in a brace, which I’ll probably be wearing for the foreseeable future while I’m doing rehab and all that stuff. It’s all about making slow progress. Baby steps.”
The boot is gone and I'm making progress! There’s a long road ahead but I'm working hard to #ImproveEveryDay. Details on my rehab schedule and breaking down our success in my absence. https://t.co/mYEFv1DZpG

These baby steps partnered with his positive attitude towards the whole recovery process are key to him progressing and returning to the court. Hayward is tackling this recovery both mentally and physically. He posts in an update on his website (gordonhayward20.life) saying, “I’m also talking to a sports psychologist once a week to help me overcome any negative thoughts, and try to keep a positive outlook on this whole thing. Just talking to somebody about that type of stuff is really good to keep me on the right track.” He is doing everything in his power to be better everyday than he was the day before so he can return to the team as soon as possible.
As someone who has had a few foot surgeries I can attest to how liberating it is to be out of the boot and off crutches. Number 20 will now have the freedom every post-surgery patient waits for, being to walk on their own, and he is one (literal) step closer to his NBA return.
Hayward has emphasized since the injury that he does not know when he will be returning to the court and is day to day as far as the recovery goes. The small forward has not ruled out returning this season pending the status of his foot.
