SWANSEA, MA (WHDH) – The man who hosted a Patriots jersey burning party back in September is appealing a $400 fine given to him by the fire chief.
The homeowner, Mark Shane, organized the burning for fans upset about members of the team kneeling during the national anthem.
Officials had previously said the protest was a violation of the town’s fire code
Shane said he should be protected under free speech.
Well if that isn’t karma, I don’t know what is. I’d also put it under the category of breaking the law and then being appropriately punished for breaking said law.
Just so everyone is clear, free speech isn’t protected if you’re breaking a law while participating in it. For example, let’s say, ohhhh I don’t know, like violating a town’s fire code.
I know the whole kneeling subject is old news and whether you agree or disagree with it, I think I speak for everyone when I say hosting a Patriots jersey burning party because of it is pretty stupid.
Stupid people usually gets what they deserve and in this case it comes in the form of a $400 fine and you know, the hundreds of dollars of lost merchandise from burning really expensive jerseys.
