You’d think these players and teams would ever learn, but they don’t. They never learn.
As the playoffs get in full swing, the time to focus on your upcoming opponent is now. That’s unless you’re Mike Mitchell and want to look past your upcoming opponent and ahead to the Patriots.
Mitchell was a big part of a long Sports Illustrated feature on the Steelers defense without Ryan Shazier and within the piece, Mitchell guaranteed a win over the Patriots. In that piece, he guaranteed victory over the Patriots next week. “We’re going to play [the Patriots] again,” Mitchell said. “We can play them in hell, we can play them in Haiti, we can play them in New England. … We’re gonna win.”
How about getting by Jacksonville, who embarrassed your team earlier this season before worrying about New England. Not to mention, guaranteeing a win isn’t the smartest of things to do. The last thing anybody needs to do is give Tom Brady and the Patriots some bulletin board material. I hope Belichick prints this out and shows it in a team meeting. “Here you go, they’re planning on going to Minnesota, their bags are packed, what are you all going to do about that?”. That’s what I’d say if I was coach.
