We’re finally hearing from the GOAT’s mouth what exactly happens to his thumb. After dealing with 3-4 days of speculation and reports, Tom clarified this morning what exactly happened.
On WEEI’s Kirk & Callahan, Tom detailed: “We (Burkhead) ran into each other and my thumb just got bent back. It wasn’t his helmet or anything. It just kind of got bent back and that’s why I thought it was a lot worse. The doctors checked it out and we did the things just to kind of check on everything. Fortunately there wasn’t the damage that normally comes associated with that. I think we were very lucky.” Tom went on to explain that he had 12 stitches, not 4 like was originally reported. So the cut was actually more significant than originally thought.
12 stitches for number 12’s throwing hand and he still went 26-38 for 290 years, 2 TD’s, 0 INT’s and a 108 passer rating. Simply amazing. I was nervous as hell going into this game but once that first pass went down field on the 2nd play of the game to Cooks, I was put at ease.
Now Tom has two weeks to heal and rest before the biggest game of the year. Gronk should be back and the Patriots will be ready. It’s gonna be a long two weeks, but it’s the last game of the year, so let’s enjoy it.
