After beating the Vikings which booked them a date with the Patriots in Minnesota, the Eagles tackle didn’t waste much time going after “pretty boy” Tom Brady saying he wanted to “dethrone” the quarterback when they meet in the Super Bowl.
While appearing on FS1’s “First Things First” on Wednesday, Johnson doubled down saying that he’s not going to bow down to Brady simply because of his status.
“I mean, obviously, he’s the greatest quarterback of all time,” Johnson said. [But] I don’t want to go to the Super Bowl and be, ‘hey, thanks, Tom, thanks for having us. We wish you the best. That’s so sweet to be in your good graces.’ And, obviously, they’re going to talk about him the whole week until they somehow get arthritis in their tongue. I don’t know if that’s going to be possible, but it’ll happen.
“So from that standpoint, I’m going in confident, I want our team to be confident, and we’re not just going there to celebrate, we’re going there to win.
Cue the “who the fook is that guy” memes. In today’s sports climate, taking shots at the Patriots is nowhere close to new, and usually encouraged by anyone outside of New England, (I guess Connecticut as well, but who cares about Connecticut). It’s textbook use of the bandwagon effect. But, trash talking the Patriots for media attention is a fatal blow before you even play a snap. He calls Tom Brady a “pretty boy” to try and dig at him, then nobody really cares. Also, wouldn’t it make more sense for a defensive player to say this? Lane Johnson is an offensive tackle, who obviously won’t deal with Brady…
So, he then has to go on a PR tour on “First Things First” just to get people to notice him. (60k people watch that show max, just saying). What Lane said in the first place wasn’t even bloggable – the follow up with no attention given to him is the funny part. Notice how he backs down a little? He went from calling out Brady to just saying “i’m going in confident.” At least Jalen Ramsey went full tilt. Looks like Lane Johnson came down off the high of winning and realized Case Keenum won’t be on the other sideline. Lane, you know talking shit to Tom Brady NEVER works, he isn’t human.
Going out of your way to talk shit about the Patriots and Tom Brady should be an episode on My Strange Addiction. It never ends, but never works. Also, don’t forget Bill Belichick has TWO weeks to prepare for Nick Foles. While the Eagles are trying to cook up these one-liners to tweet out, or say on mediocre morning shows, the Patriots have your weaknesses currently rolling on the VCR. Never change NFL, never change.
