Watching the Patriots defense get scorched for 538 total yards while Malcolm Butler sat on the bench the entire game was the most frustrating part of Super Bowl 52.
Former Patriot Brandon Browner weighed in on the situation and he had some strong words
The post was liked by current Patriot Dont’a Hightower. Since Brandon posted this, the story of Malcolm apparently being caught with marijuana surfaced, Brandon weighed in on that too:
As a fan base, I think we’re owed an explanation. If it was a curfew thing, fine him, sit him a series, sit him a quarter, but sitting him the entire game? That’s excessive and it cost this team a ring. This team has signed players with pasts that weren’t the greatest, but you signed them anyways. I get that whatever happened, happened on your watch, but it’s the freaking Super Bowl. The only statement you made by benching Butler was that you didn’t care to win this game, because you weren’t winning this game with Jordan Richards and Eric Rowe. Brady balled out of his mind, three for 505 yards, 3 TD’s and the Patriots never had to punt on offense, this one is solely on the defense. Perhaps the Butler situation wasn’t the only reason why, but it’s a big reason why, and that doesn’t sit well with me, and probably Tom too…
